At Knowledge Infusion, it seems like daily that we are asked about how to look at Software as a Service vendors, whether they be traditional ERP vendors such as Oracle/SAP operating in a hosted model or true Software as a Service vendors. In my reading the night before the election, saw a great article at Sandhill and thought I would share the Top 10:
1. Dynamic Billing - you should only be billed for what you use
2. Security - Wow... Read the article, many questions
3. 100% Web Based - Need to download something on the PC?
4. Experience - How long has the software been running in this delivery environment?
5. Upgrades - How often? Impact on change management?
6. Integration - Make sure you test the experience here
7. Backup - How often?
8. Data Center - Credibility and certification of data centers
9. Scalability - Prove that the provider can grow with you
10. Monitoring - Mechanisms in place that monitor the SaaS system
Overall, Software as a Service is proving to not be a fad, but a true contender to lead how HR departments deploy certain pieces of software and functionality now and into the future. We all have lots of learning to do, here is a great article to start with.
WHAT WOULD YOU ADD AS A COMMUNITY BASED ON EXPERIENCES?
Another infusion of knowledge...
