Interesting report out from Neilsen Mobile states that:

  • For the second quarter of 2008, U.S. mobile subscribers sent and received on average 357 text messages per month, compared with making and receiving 204 phone calls a month, according to Nielsen. The new statistic is a clear indication that Americans have jumped onto the SMS text bandwagon.
  • For the month of June 2008, American cell phone subscribers sent about 75 billion SMS text messages, averaging about 2.5 billion messages per day. This represents an increase of 160 percent over the 28.8 billion messages reported in June 2007.

As part of Knowledge Infusion Digital HR StrategyMap, one of the things we are constantly working with organizations on is how to leverage the technologies that are being used in day to day life to drive HR and business efficiency and effectiveness.  This is further proof, the future of HR Service Delivery and HR Technology is in the hands of the workforce.  Are you providing tools today to allow for text messaging?  Report distribution to the mobile device?

As the CEO of Knowledge Infusion, I was at a client last week when the SVP of HR asked the difference between Facebook and Social Networking.

I was quick to explain that Facebook was a kind of Social Networking, and went to the networked computer to go to http://www.facebook.com.  The message said: "Facebook cannot be accessed here at xxx because of network limitations."

Interesting I said.  You are cut off from most of your employee population.  A few interesting stats:

  • 39% of 18 to 24 year-olds would consider leaving if they were not allowed to access sites like Facebook and YouTube

  • A further 21% indicated that they would feel ‘annoyed’ by such a ban

  • The problem is less acute with 25 to 65 year-olds, of whom just 16 per cent would consider leaving and 13 per cent would be annoyed

Use technology as an ally, not a negative.  The world isnt going to change because HR isnt ready to govern a new type of communication that is all that new workers know.  This is an important part of creating a Digital HR strategy, one of KI's fastest growing areas of business.

Do you ban employees time in the bathroom?   Do they need a bathroom pass?

Knowledge Infusion is being asked DAILY if not HOURLY about how to tie HR strategy to business strategy and make it stick.  At the same time, we are being asked about the ROI on enabling technologies around HR and talent management.  I had a great chat in the airport last night with a CEO of a multi-national agriculture organization who said this:

"If you can help align our organization, no ROI is needed, it is priceless" (sounded like a Mastercard commercial). So I did a bit of digging and found in interesting post around ROI - Return on Influence.  It went like this:

Marc van Bree, of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, discusses the metrics of blogging and social media. According to Marc, “First, an organization needs to find out what it is trying to accomplish. Are you spreading a message, building a community, raising awareness, forging relationships? From there, find out what to measure.” Marc outlines several “metric” areas to track:

  • Activity
  • Community
  • Conversation
  • Participation
  • Connectedness
  • Content

Read the whole post at Dutch Perspective.

This is a perfect way for HR to explore new technologies such as blogs adopted from the VP of HR to drive alignment.  Take a read and let us know your thoughts.

According to a recent ThirdAge/JWT Boom study, people over age 40 participate heavily in word-of-mouth and value personal recommendations and expert opinions, but they have not embraced social networking or blogs despite being heavy users of other online services.

Knowledge Infusion is asked daily about how to fill the generational gap as HR continues to move down the Digital HR path.  Interesting results and even more important to think about how to market to these people.  This is EXACTLY why Knowledge Infusion spends so much time on the people and Deployment Excellence side of HR technology strategy.

As discussed yesterday, Enterprise 2.0 continues to surge and InfoWorld has more examples of success with Oracle, Best Buy and Serena.  From a Knowledge Infusion standpoint, even more reason and validation behind the Digital HR StrategyMap that our customers are continuing to adopt.

Take a read of the article and let me know examples of what is happening in your company.

Over the past three weeks, I have given 5 speeches where either a question or comment has emerged about Enterprise 2.0 and what is it?

The slide show below is a great explanatory tool about Enterprise 2.0 and how organizations are using these tools.  This very closely follows the Knowledge Infusion Digital HR methodology around the technologies that HR will need to adopt over the next few years to retain and attract the new age workforce and drive more collaboration within its existing workforce.

Take a look at slideshow....Very educational.  How does it relate to HR?  Your thoughts?

As a big part of the Knowledge Infusion Digital HR practice, collaborative technologies play a huge role.  Take a look at this video and see if you agree.  Let us know your thoughts and how you are working around this.

Knowledge Infusion is asked daily by its clients for ideas around talent acquisition and winning the talent war for specific jobs.  I found this recruiting video from E&Y quite interesting.  Seriously, make video part of your Digital HR strategy, amazing medium for to drive adoption.  Make you want to work there?

After a quick read this morning of the article below from InformationWeek discussing the 50% growth in Windows Mobile licenses over the next 2 years; a quick thought came to mind that I wanted to open a discussion about.

"Do you think HR and Talent Management processes will be truly executed by the workforce on mobile devices?  If so, when?"

This whole concept is a big piece of the Knowledge Infusion Digital HR StrategyMap that we offer to organizations around the world.  The question, how do we align our existing technology investments with the direction that technology is moving and with the generational changes occuring in the workforce?

Take a read of the article and let me know your thoughts?  Mobile HR?  Security?

We need to rethink a few things....

Hiring the Web 2.0 Way

Posted by Jason Averbook May 21, 2008

Knowledge Infusion continues to work with organizations as part of their Digital HR strategy to understand how new technologies are being used in the marketplace today.

I had the opportunity to recently keynote an event in Chicago speaking of how organizations are using Web 2.0 technologies in the enterprise, I also had an opportunity to speak to many customers about the fears within Web 2.0 in their organization.

The attached article about how recruiters and hiring professionals are using technology would come into play in a large way.  A few of the highlights of the article include:

  • Background research

  • Networking

  • Interviews

  • Global Hiring (Reaching the world with a single click)

Take a read and use as an educational process to ensure you are leveraging the web in all of the aspects possible to drive success.  Your competitors are doing it, are you?

Start today...

Click below for a great post and VIDEO from CNET demonstrating Oracle's use of Web 2.0 with business applications.  I have to give Oracle a ton of credit for continuing to push the envelope and developing integrated uses of Web 2.0 with functions that businesses perform daily.  This is also being done by SAP, Lawson and many others in the space; but Oracle seems to really get it and this demonstration continues to prove that.  While not a HR example, fun to think about the possibilities.

From a Knowldege Infusion standpoint, the response to our Digital HR launch and services has been tremendous.  It is more clear to me than ever that Digital HR will change HR and talent management technology forever and organizations will need a clear strategy around the future of online interactions with the entire workforce.

What do you think the possibilities are?  If you had to develop a Web 2.0 application for HR, what would it do?
