Very Interesting - Knowledge Infusion and IHRIM Announce Annual Survey Results

Knowledge Infusion and IHRIM have had a deep partnership over the last four years (since KI's inception) in delivering a yearly survey of its members to the community. This year we took a bit of a different approach; the approach not only looking at STRATEGY, but more importantly, the ability for organization's to EXECUTE that strategy and where they were seeing success and where they were feeling pain. Well, the results were even more interesting than we thought they might be. A few highlights (lowlights?):

Less than 1/3 of organizations surveyed say they are delivering excellent or above average HR services. Hmmm*

Less than 10% said they believed their employees were satisfied with HR and Talent Management technologies. Hmmm*

Over 60% said they do not have a formal governance process for making HR and Talent Management decisions. Hmmm*

Over 60% said they do not have the necessary budget to communicate, train and drive adoption. Hmmm*

Some good news, 20% said they had an aligned HR technology strategy to the business, up from 12% last year. Yes, 20% is not great, but much better than 12%.*

What does all of this mean? What should you do?

One of the things we continue to work with our clients on is that software today is like a "perpetual beta". You don't just stand it up and move on to the next module. Deployments of software in 2008 and beyond require different skills, different logic and most importantly, different focus on the workforce vs. the HR department to drive success. 2008 will be a good year for talent management software sales and MUST be a turning point as to how organizations actually deploy the software they buy.

Take a read of the press release here and look for more details plus many webinars to help you improve these numbers into the future. Send me a comment if you have specific questions.

Link to Press Release

Another infusion of knowledge...

The 2008 CIO

At Knowledge Infusion, in every client engagement we work on we work with the CIO of the enterprise jointly with the leads from HR, various talent organizations and of course, the line of business.

InformationWeek had an interesting blog post last week that caught my eye as we were meeting with a number of CIO's last week from Fortune 100 organizations. An excerpt that I found extremely telling is:

The pace of technology change -- and therefore

business expectations and IT culture -- is accelerating, fueled by

three things: IT's *_brief but turbulent history, a crush of external

forces that reset IT spending and user attitudes, and the strength and

resourcefulness of CIOs themselves_*. To survive in tomorrow's context, a

CIO will need to disperse staff and capability out to business units at

the same time as they acquire capacity from a supply grid. Meanwhile,

the +_CIO must switch focus from efficiency and cost to enabling greater
experimentation and iteration of new ways of competing for the firm._+

The best will take over their firms' operational services, run P&L

lines, become COOs, and in tech services firms, aim sights on becoming

CEOs.

What i found very valuable about this was that the CIO will be looking to experiment more with technology going forward to drive competitive advantage. This is opposite of what most CIO's were doing the past 10 years while focusing on efficiencies.

From a people perspective, the services economy will always be driven by people. The knowledge of those people make up the competitive advantage of an organization and the CIO will begin to look for ways to leverage that knowledge more into the future. The question for HR is "are you ready?"

HR must continue to learn about new technologies such as social networking, Web 2.0, and other tools to insure that when the CIO does come knocking (hopefully this will happen); HR is prepared with open arms to say YES and experiment with IT.

2008 - an interesting year as technology matures, the business asks for more and HR continues to have a larger seat at the table.

BE READY

Another infusion of knowledge...

Link to Blog Posting
