Jason - Mark had a different perspective on the re-training. Let us know what you think.

http://talentedapps.wordpress.com/2008/03/01/starbucks-growth-trust-and-risk/

I was thinking the same thing. A 3 hour shutdown at 5:30P is a smart move since most people are eating dinner. Amazingly, Starbucks is getting 3 benefits from this move:

1. Better trained employees especially around the customer experience

2. Employee engagement and team building that should have some tangible impact

3. Amazing press and media attention

Just imagine if they had attempted this at 6am vs. 6pm. My sense tells me the same move would have produced an armageddon like effect. Let's all be glad Starbucks chose the evening hours for this training event.

Not my intention to slight CedarCrestone, Lexy. But you'll agree that when the organization was still called The Hunter Group, it had very special influence in the world of HR technology. Of course, you are the best person to have worked there under all the names.

RE: Trick or Treat? Kronos Buys Deploy

You are both a little right and a little wrong. What is happening in the Retail space (which is the biggest hourly market for both Kronos and Deploy) is that those organizations are looking for integrated hourly and salaried solutions. That is why Kronos had announced it was going to resell MrTed (see http://www.kronos.com/About/pr_corporatehiring_sept10.htm?rss=&ACT=&DES=). So, the interesting question to ask is about the future of the Deploy solution which overlaps heavily with Unicru/MrTed. Jason is quite right to ask about the rest of the talent management suite Deploy had started to build. Will it become the basis for Kronos expansion beyond Talent Acquisition? I hope to get some answers next week at KronosWorks.

It tickled me to see KI compared to old The Hunter Group. THG has morphed through a few acquisitions and is now CedarCrestone and we still have influence! www.cedarcrestone.com

Bill- Deploy really abandoned their salary solution about 2 years ago to focus solely on hourly, and when I say hourly, only within a few niche markets. The ultimate question is if Deploy's new platform, aTAO, can cut the mustard and be Kronos' core platform for talent management in the future.

Historically, Deploy was a salaried recruiting vendor, adding hourly functionality only in response to market demand (and competition). Without having talked with any Kronos executive, my bet is the acquisition was about getting a salaried solution, which Unicru had (through its own acquisition of Personic/Xperius/XP) but didn't cut the mustard.

I've only seen vignettes from The Office on YouTube, but my favorite is the one where this guy's co-workers put all his stuff (including his wallet) in the vending machine. A woman comes by and buys his pencil cup right in front of him and he can't do anything about it. LOL
